Reapers Defeat Paw Paw for Top Honors

Plano captured their first LTC Tournament title as they defeated Hinckley, Leland, Rollo and finally Paw Paw. The Reapers were 4-1 in the LTC entering the tournament, while Paw Paw was 3-2. Somonauk and Waterman were tied at the top of the loop with 6-1 records, but each were upset along the way to set up the unlikely finals pair.

Day One

Plano 54, Hinckley 28

Plano led 22-11 at halftime and then out-scored Hinckley 22-11 in the third quarter to advance.

Bill Nelson led Plano with a game-high 23 points, while John Landis added 11.

 

Paw Paw 45, Somonauk 44

Waterman 47, Earlville 36

Day Two

Rollo 40, Shabbona 39

Plano 47, Leland 29

Plano led 11-5 after one quarter and 20-12 at halftime.  The Reapers then out-pointed Leland 27-17 in the second half to earn the win.

Bill Nelson paced Plano with a game-high 17 points, while John Billingham added 15 markers and John Landis nine.

Day Three

Paw Paw 43, Sandwich 39

Serena 41, Waterman 29

Day Four

Plano 50, Rollo 32

Rollo, who upset Shabbona in their first game of the tournament, led Plano 12-8 after the opening period.  However, Plano advanced to the title game by roaring back, out-scoring the Eagles 16-6 in period two and then putting the game on ice with a 19-3 third quarter advantage.

Bill Nelson was the scoring star in the contest with 20 points on nine field goals and a pair of free tosses.
