In the 1936-1937 season, Somonauk opened a new gymnasium, which was the home of the 1937 Little Ten Conference
Tournament. Waterman won the title, making it eight of nine years they had taken
home the prized trophy. The “Maroons”, as Waterman was called in
the early years, opened with a 48-17 victory over Sheridan. In the semi-finals Waterman defeated Shabbona
in a close contest 20-19 and then in a classic championship game outlasted tournament favorite Leland in a 24-22, double-overtime
contest. Leland reached the title game by defeating Paw Paw (47-15), Earlville
(31-26) and Rollo (28-24). Shabbona took home third place honors with a 23-11
win over Rollo and Sandwich took the consolation title over Earlville 30-21.
