Hinckley captured the 1927 Little Ten Conference
Tournament championship held at Sandwich High School. Hinckley defeated a tough bunch from Waterman in the final
game 25-20 after being victorious over Somonauk (44-5) and Rollo (30-12). Waterman
was somewhat of a surprise as they upset Sandwich in the first round, then Shabbona, who was a favorite
to win the championship and Earlville in the semis.
Hinckley rolled out to a 14-4 lead after the first eight minutes, but Waterman was able to slice
that disadvantage to 18-14 by halftime. The teams each scored three points in
the third and Hinckley out pointed Waterman in the fourth 4-3 to take the title by a 25-20 score.
Earlville pulled off a mild upset in the third place game by winning against a strong Shabbona team 33-15.
Hinckley was awarded a silver basketball trophy as tournament champs, while Leland was given
a silver loving cup for best sportsmanship. Alfred Dudley of Earlville received
a gold basketball for being chosen as the best all-around player in the tournament and the officials chose all-star teams
as follows.
